Brome is a tall oat-like grass that is grown for fodder or ornamental purposes. Smooth bromegrass is a leafy, sod-forming perennial grass that is best suited for hay or early spring pasture. It is deep-rooted and spreads by underground rhizomes. Meadow bromegrass is much less aggressive than smooth brome and less likely to become sod bound. It remains green longer in the fall.
